How the Happiest People Spend Their Weekends

If your weekends are consumed by chores and leftover work, consider treating them like vacations, suggests Cassie Holmes, a happiness researcher. In an experiment, she found that those who adopted a vacation mindset over the weekend felt more satisfied and positive.

They did less housework and were more mindful and present.

Despite 78% of American workers not fully using their PTO, and 54% struggling to unplug, adopting this mindset can help.

Start by dedicating one day to activities that relax and disconnect you, like exploring nature or trying a new restaurant.

However, Holmes advises not to overuse this approach, as it may lose its impact.

When used wisely, it allows you to experience vacation-like happiness without extra time off.
