Medical Ozone Therapy

Medical Ozone Therapy: Rejuvenating, detoxifying, immune-boosting

Therapy with medical-grade ozone is intended to reduce inflammation, enhance cellular oxygen utilization to facilitate whole-body detox, and support the immune system.

What is ozone?

The oxygen we breathe is two oxygen atoms (O2), and if you add another oxygen atom to that, you produce ozone (O3). That extra oxygen atom will readily react with other molecules it comes in contact with which produces multiple benefits. The leftover O2 then helps fuel our cells.

What are potential benefits of ozone therapy?

Whether you are actively struggling with acute conditions, or looking for help with aging and longevity, ozone can benefit a broad array of medical conditions.

What conditions might benefit from medical ozone therapy?

Autoimmune conditions, post-COVID syndrome, acute or chronic infections [viruses, bacteria, parasites, mold and fungi], fatigue, brain fog, neurologic issues, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis), intestinal dysbiosis, joint pain and other chronic pain conditions, wound-healing, rashes, cancer and chemotherapy-induced side effects, athletic performance, longevity.

Is ozone therapy safe, and what are some ozone administration techniques?

While you should never inhale ozone, ozone therapy is very safe when used appropriately. It actually has less side effects than many over-the-counter medications, including aspirin1,5. While breathing in high doses of ozone is harmful due to the lack of antioxidant capabilities on the surface of your lungs, ozone that is administered via multiple other methods is not only safe, but can have some incredible benefits. Some safe methods of ozone administration include IV [various methods], rectally, vaginally, intramuscular, intra-articular [into joints], subdermal, limb bagging, ear or nasal insufflation, topical ozonated cream, and even ozonated water.

EBOO involves one IV in each arm. MAH/UV and 10 Pass have just one IV.

How does ozone work?

Ozone increases the body's natural antioxidant production which decreases inflammation. This can help the body deal with oxidative stress. Oxidative stress from our normal bodily processes or foreign toxins creates inflammation which causes damage as we age. Ozone can help our body to process these stressors appropriately, and this can help the liver and kidneys' detoxification ability. This may also assist with improving autoimmune conditions and flares.

Similar to exercise and fasting, ozone stimulates a mechanism known as hormesis, in which a mild acute stress can have healing effects by promoting your innate recovery mechanisms.

Ozone can help modulate your immune system, and can also help the body clear indolent infections from viruses, bacteria, and fungi. It has been shown to weaken or damage the cellular integrity of microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi. This is especially important for combating antibiotic and anti-fungal resistant microbes.

Mitochondria are the powerhouses of our cells and help us produce energy. Ozone helps increase the efficiency of mitochondria, allowing for increased energy production in the form of ATP.

What types of medical ozone therapy does KanodiaMD offer?

We offer various therapies that use ozone in the office and both single and multiple treatment programs for each:

IV Ozone Methods

1. MAH/UV:

This stands for major autohemotherapy and UV light. First, we draw some of your blood via a heparinized syringe. We then mix it into a bag of normal saline water. Next, we inject medical-grade ozone into the bag and mix the blood with it. Then we reinfuse your ozonated blood back into you while it is running under a UV light machine. This enhances the antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of the ozonated blood even more. The procedure takes about 30-45 minutes to complete. It is estimated MAH delivers up to 10,000 μg of ozone in one treatment.

2. Hyperbaric Ozone, also known as "10-Pass" or "Multi-pass"

An IV is connected to a glass bottle that is attached to a machine that allows for oxygen and ozone to be delivered under pressure for much greater absorption. One pass consists of 200cc of blood going into the bottle, being exposed to ozone under pressure, and then returning to your body. This is done 10 times total (10 passes). This treatment generally takes 1-1.5 hours. It is estimated 10 Pass delivers up to 140,000 μg of ozone in one treatment.

3. Extracorporeal Blood Oxygenation and Ozonation” (EBOO) or “Ozone dialysis”:

In this method, one IV is inserted into each arm and blood is pumped through a dialysis membrane that allows for a huge surface area of ozone/oxygen diffusion into the blood which greatly impacts its potency. Please note, this is not “filtering” your blood which is a common misconception about this technique. Only about 250cc of blood is out of the body at any given moment. This generally takes 1 hour but can be longer. It is estimated EBOO delivers up to 460,000 μg of ozone in one treatment.

Other Methods

  • Neural ozone therapy: Subdermal injections that can help reduce pain, tension, and reset the nervous system in that area
  • Nasal or ear insufflation, rectal or vaginal insufflation, limb bagging (for wounds)
