Family, Functional and Integrative Medicine
Hi, my name is Anup Kanodia, MD, MPH. As a classically trained physician, it did not take me long to realize that my initial medical school training was not enough for me to fundamentally help people achieve true, long lasting health. Early in my residency, I began to notice that the symptom/drug approach worked for acute problems, such as severe bacterial infections and heart attacks, but this model was fundamentally flawed for chronic health conditions. It did not and does not work. The reason this model is inadequate is because it is entrenched in dispensing pharmaceuticals that often have severe side effects and not in how to search for the “root” cause and treat the person, not just their symptom.
This realization turned my world upside down and forced me to ask myself these two questions, “Is this what it means to be a doctor?” and “Do I just want to write prescriptions all day long to camouflage symptoms?” For me, the answer was an absolute “No.” And so began my journey and another three years of medical training that introduced me to the world of Alternative and Functional training. It was during this time that I found the answers that were missing. I learned how to help people get to the root cause of a myriad of different illnesses such as chronic fatigue, allergies, recurrent infections, depression and irritable bowel. I learned how stress could destroy a person’s health and that yeast overgrowth is the silent demon robbing thousands of people of their health. For the undiagnosed that had tried everything, I learned that there were solutions. It was in this body of work that my patients began to get well, stay well and live well. My original passion in medicine took on a whole new meaning and my mission was now clear: dig for the root cause, identify it, treat it and eliminate it. This process is the key to help people transform their health and empower them to live the joyful life they were meant to live.

In my free time, I enjoy staying up on any new research into medical diagnoses and treatment options to offer my patients. I also enjoy traveling both near and far and I am a huge fan of the Cleveland Browns, Indians, Cavaliers and a Buckeye at heart.

Daniel Bruns,PA-C

Certified Physician Assistant

Hi, my name is Daniel Bruns, PA-C. Before beginning my training as a physician assistant, I learned about functional medicine and was inspired by the work of great providers like Dr. Mark Hyman. The further I progressed through PA school, the more I understood the importance of functional medicine to America's overall physical, mental, social, and financial health. While our conventional medicine model is excellent in acute care settings, we have much to improve upon—especially with chronic conditions.

Before joining KanodiaMD, I worked as an internal medicine hospitalist PA. Though the experience was rewarding, my passion for functional medicine continued to grow and I was fortunate enough to start working with Dr. Kanodia. Being able to identify and treat root causes allows me to offer so much to the world, and I am excited to be a part of it.

In my free time, I enjoy getting into nature and reconnecting with the earth. From Montana and Canada to Peru and Mt. Everest, my adventures have taken me around the globe. One of my favorite pastimes is lying in my hammock with a good philosophy or functional medicine book. I am particularly interested at a macro level of how environmental health impacts our physiologic, mental, and societal health.

Lauren Popelas , RDN, LD, IFNCP

Functional Medicine Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
Hello, my name is Lauren. My passion in nutrition stems from my love for athletics when I was younger, and my interest in learning how to fuel the body for performance. This led me to my undergraduate studies at Miami University in kinesiology and nutrition. While exploring different facets of nutrition, my experience in Africa engaging in nutrition education research opened my eyes to the needs of those from all around the world. As I continued into my dietetic internship I was exposed to various settings, and found myself interested in the areas of nutrition that allowed me to spend time educating on the importance of food, gain an understanding of an individual's needs, and support the formulation of habits around food, stress, sleep, movement and hydration.
Upon moving back to Columbus, Ohio I dove into the world of Functional Medicine with a focus on empowering clients to take control of their health using the healing power of food. My approach is to keep food simple, flavorful and nourishing while supporting a healthy mindset in the process. In some capacity, I have always loved functional medicine but didn’t know it had a name!
I spend my free time in coffee shops, hiking, or planning my next trip! I enjoy a good cookbook, listening to podcasts focused around health & wellness, and engaging in thought provoking conversations. I truly believe that Food is Medicine, and I welcome the opportunity to assist you in reaching your health goals!

Functional Medicine Health Coach
Hello my name is Tami Gaitten. I have long been a proponent of natural health and have always believed in the body’s innate wisdom and ability to heal itself given the right tools. However, I started my career many years ago, in Information Technology. I worked for a corporation for 16 years. This took a toll on my health and my family; and I eventually made the decision to stay home to raise our 4 children. After 9 years at home, I decided to follow my passion and went back to school to become a certified health coach. I then continued on for several years to study functional nutrition and physiology, and the art of coaching. I started my own business in 2011, but when the opportunity arose to work with Dr. Kanodia in a functional medical practice, I knew this would allow me to continue to learn and grow, and to ultimately affect more change.

As a health coach, I love helping people learn to help themselves, and to realize the amazing power they hold over their own health. Lifestyle changes aren’t always easy, but with gentle guidance, education, and ongoing support they can happen almost effortlessly. I take the time to get to know each of my clients, and with careful listening I gain insight, clarify goals, explore possibilities and create strategies for success. We work together to implement their health plan taking those small concrete steps forward to reach their goals.

Functional Medicine Health Coach
Hello my name is Steph Tucker and I am proud to be a member of the Kanodia Team! For years I worked as a Health Aide in the public school system. In this role I saw many children with a wide variety of medical conditions. It was eye opening and oftentimes heartbreaking. This coupled with my own health struggles led me to begin searching for a different way of doing things. I was turned on to a local Health Coach and, after a relatively short amount of time working together, I was seeing improvement to things that had eluded me for 20+ years. I knew that I was on to something and wanted to help others experience the power of returning to health and living their best lives!
As a health coach, I feel truly blessed to be a part of something larger than myself. I enjoy working with our patients to achieve their health and sometimes life goals. I am reminded every day of the miracle that is the human body. How capable we are of healing if given the proper conditions and guidance. I enjoy getting to know my patients and working together toward sustainable goals and celebrating every win, both big and small!

Angela Dugan , WHNP-BC

Nurse Practitioner
Hello, I'm Angela Dugan. I am a board-certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP-BC). My journey in healthcare began at The Ohio State University, where I completed my undergraduate and nurse practitioner training.
Before joining KanodiaMD, I dedicated my skills as a nurse practitioner to OhioHealth Gynecologic Cancer Surgeons. As a crucial member of a comprehensive care team, I supported patients and their families through the challenges of facing a cancer diagnosis. Guiding them through diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing surveillance of gynecologic malignancies was incredibly fulfilling. However, as the years passed and especially during the pandemic, I grew frustrated with the limitations of the conventional medical model. Witnessing my patients facing increased health challenges, I felt constrained by time and resources to address the broader aspects of their well-being.
This frustration coincided with a personal health crisis that led me on a quest for answers. Struggling with mysterious ailments, I delved into extensive research and discovered the transformative world of functional medicine. This experience reshaped my beliefs about health and healthcare. Inspired by the power of functional medicine, I decided to make a career change to align with my newfound passion for holistic healing.
Joining KanodiaMD has been a turning point for me. Our mission, “Feel Better. Live Better ” resonates deeply with my vision for healthcare. I am committed to partnering with women to uncover the root causes of their symptoms, crafting treatment plans that empower them to restore balance, optimize healing, and embrace vitality. I eagerly anticipate joining you on your healing journey.
On a personal note, my partner and I are proud parents to two wonderful children, ages 5 and 4. In my free time, I enjoy listening to podcasts, hiking, engaging in yoga and meditation, and spending time with my sweet children.
